The Los Angeles Public Library serves the largest and most diverse urban population of any library in the nation. The Wilmington Branch serves a working-class, primarily Latinx community in the Wilmington area, near the Port of Los Angeles. Many families in the area are low-income and use public assistance. Spanish is widely spoken in the community. The branch is staffed by four librarians and eight clerical employees and holds approximately 58,000 volumes.
