University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) is a research university that serves more than 17,000 students, 1,000 faculty members and 1,000 staff members. The campus has two locations, one on each side of the Merrimack River. Each campus has its own library: On South Campus is O’Leary Library and on North Campus is Lydon Library. Seven professional librarians, with additional support from 15 staff members, staff the two branches. Many of our patrons are first-generation college students. Our programs emphasize service learning and encourage students to engage in the greater community. As a result, we have a strong relationship with the city of Lowell. This allows the library to partner and collaborate with Pollard Memorial Library, Lowell's public library.
