The Lafayette Municipal Library was founded as a potential "demonstration library" in 1942. Shortly after, in 1946, an official library was established in the Old Southside School building in Lafayette parish. The LPL system has grown vastly over the decades. It is now comprised of 9 branches around Lafayette Parish. There are five regional branches, 4 satellite branches, and a bookmobile servicing all corners of our wonderful community.
