NOLS is a four-branch county-wide library system with 56 FTE and an annual budget of $5 million. Clallam County has a population of about 70,000, spread out over 2,670 square miles. Much of the population is rural and internet access in not available or reliable in parts of the county. Although 92% of adults are high school graduates, only 26% have completed a four-year degree; median household income is less than $50,000. Some of NOLS’ service focus areas are free and equal access, literacy and learning, and the power of knowledge, imagination, and exploration. Adult programming is regularly offered at all four locations.
