Boulder Library Concert Series

A band sitting on the stage floor performing

Music is a powerful connecting force in Boulder, and our library's Concert Series has become a symbol of quality programming in our community. Featuring highly accomplished local to international musicians, our free concerts offer something for every taste: reflective meditations, lively jazz performances, inspiring string quartets and more.

We welcome patrons of all ages to experience live performances throughout the year. Concerts take place in our 200-seat Canyon Theater, which typically fills to capacity.

Karaoke Study Break

Karaoke Study Break was held the second to last week of our fall term. The last two weeks of term is often a time when students feel heightened stress, as exams, projects, research papers and deadlines loom on the horizon. Karaoke Study Break, an hour of turning our library Reading Room into a Karaoke party, was created as an outlet for stress relief.

Lore of the Land was a speaker series made up of 12 sessions. Each session focused on the cultural, historical and musical events that formed the state of Nebraska.

Our speakers were brought to us through Humanities Nebraska. If you want to conduct a similar speaker series at your library, try reaching out to your state's humanities council.

Small Library, Big Community: Soup and Sound

Patrons at Slater Public Library share a meal and prepare to listen to entertainment at Soup and Sound

At Slater (Iowa) Public Library, we find that it's usually tough to get adults to attend programs. But we have also seen a few notable exceptions, one of which is our Soup and Sound program. As the name suggests, this consists of serving a meal and providing entertainment to attendees. Soup and Sound is not only popular — it's fun, community-building, and we've been able to cover our program costs with donations.

Musical Madness for Kids

As part of their outreach efforts, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra provided an interactive ensemble performance series at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. After that proved successful, the St. Johns County Public Library System's youth services team utilized a Barbara A. Kay Foundation grant to expand the performances to the other branches in the system — including the Hastings branch, located in a tiny farming community.
